Frontier Technologies for Weather and Climate Based Decisions in Agriculture and Allied Sectors

Date : February 13 - 15, 2025

JOINTLY ORGANIZED BY

Association of Agrometeorologists, Anand

&

Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam

About the Conference

In recent years, the intersection of technology and agriculture has ushered in a new era of precision and resilience in farming practices. Central to this transformation are frontier technologies that harness weather and climate data to inform critical decisions across agriculture and allied sectors. These technologies encompass a diverse array of innovations, from advanced simulation modelling, satellite imagery and remote sensing to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning solutions under the aegis of IoTs. Their integration empowers farmers and stakeholders to navigate the complexities of climate variability, optimize resource management, and enhance agricultural productivity sustainably. By leveraging these advancements, stakeholders can not only mitigate risks associated with changing weather conditions but also foster a more efficient and sustainable approach to food production. As the global climate continues to evolve, the role of frontier technologies becomes increasingly pivotal in ensuring food security and promoting adaptive strategies in agriculture. In view of the above realities, Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat and Association of Agrometeorologists (AAM), Anand in a joint venture have planned to organize AGMET-2025 with a view to explore the potentialities of frontier technologies in reshaping agricultural practices by providing timely and accurate weather services.

About AAU

Assam Agricultural University (AAU) established on April 1, 1969 under “The Assam Agricultural University Act, 1968”, is situated in the Jorhat district of upper Brahmaputra Valley Zone of Assam, geographically located at 26°47՛ N, 94°12՛ E and 87 m above MSL. The mandate of imparting farm education, conducting research in agriculture and its allied sciences, and effectively disseminating technologies so generated enables AAU to create an exceptional image among the stakeholders. The UG, PG and PhD curriculum in agriculture, animal husbandry, horticulture, fishery, and sericulture are operative in 9 constituent colleges. The University has a fairly good network to conduct research and extension with 6 ZRSs, 5 commodity research stations, and 23 KVKs, respectively catering to the needs of the stakeholders across the state of Assam.

About AAM

The Association of Agrometeorologists (AAM), founded in 1999 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, is a non-profit organization committed to advancing Agricultural Meteorology and allied sciences for societal benefit. Headquartered at Anand Agricultural University, Gujarat, AAM has grown to include over 1,800 life members and operates 18 chapters across India. The Association promotes research and education through national and international seminars on contemporary themes. It publishes the Journal of Agrometeorology (ISSN 0972-1665, 2583-2980), recognized by leading scientific indexing services. Additionally, AAM honors contributions with awards such as Best Thesis, Young Scientist, and Best Paper, fostering innovation in the field.
